That time of year in NYC, as fall nears, when the days are warm but not hot, and the evenings still allow for long dinners outside, sans layers. When you order the second glass of wine without a second thought, and fully enjoy one of the best pastimes there is: people-watching in the city. What truly makes New York magical for me is the endless stream of completely different energies, styles, and personalities, each seemingly saying, “I know exactly who I am” as they walk by. There’s a distinct confidence of self—an “I am here, and I can fully be whoever I’ve dreamt of in my past life… wherever that is.”
This is where I fully dress up for no reason at all. I walk to grab bagels in the same (slightly over-the-top) polka dot dress that I will later wear to The Plaza with my parents, and yes, on the subway. I exchange a “Love your outfit! Love yours too!” with a gal at a little corner news and flower stand. She’s in a two-piece, feather-cuffed set, and of course, flats. Unlike the Bay Area, although, of course, like any city, there are plenty of casually dressed people (and here, a sea of tourists in the summer), people will surprise you with the most fun, eclectic, chic style at any and all unexpected places. It’s like playing a game of “Where’s Waldo: Best Dressed Edition” all day. So, while I’m here every few months to visit my twin brother, I make sure to make time for this hobby: style watching in NYC.
As for my own “style in the streets” during this trip, this Self-Portrait dress was a highlight. (Found a more budget-friendly option HERE.) I loved mixing a black and white polka dot look with just a bit of blush. More inspo for you below. Happy style watching (and partaking)!
