Our big Charlie girl turned 4! I can’t even believe it. Such a typical mom thing to say, but man of man does the time really fly by. Every year we let our girls do 100% of their party planning, as far as choosing the theme and location goes, but this year Charlie’s Birthday fell on a Monday, so I had an idea. To give her a little pretty DIY floral birthday party on her actual bday, and make her feel special, plus finally get some non-hectic family party photos. I haven’t done my usual crafty party thing since I went totally overboard with Grace’s 1stBirthday, doing (no joke) 10+ DIY projects months in advance. Dying coffee filters to make giant blush pomanders, making my poor friends cut out hundreds of petals for paper flowers, the works! Life and the reality of having two kids came knocking and I haven’t really done what my girlfriends call “A Veronica Party” since. It was time to get back to my DIY Pinterest loving roots!

I DM’d my friend Adine who owns The Coop, a party space in SF, and she got right on board my crazy little floral birthday party train. We only had about a week to plan everything and for a second, I got nervous thinking, “is this totally nuts?” but I quickly realized that I was working with a legit planning super hero. An hour after I had sent Adine a quick moodboard of what I had envisioned for the mini floral birthday party, she already had the cake, cookies and cupcakes ordered from the Bay Area Cake Queens (obsessed!!),and had gotten all the pretty party accessories like cups, utensils and napkins picked out. Geese and Ganders had the absolute cutest options!
Now it was my turn to do my part, ALL the pretty decorations. I opted for a sweet girly floral vibe, with lots of greenery and touches of peachy blush. My plan was to only do a few projects and make it simple! I tend to go over the top and I’ve learned the hard way that I have to be realistic with my time constraints. More likely than not, I would be working on these projects late night, with a limited amount of hours to dedicate to them.
I chose 3 projects for this floral birthday party :
1) Wooden embroidery hoops with florals. You can shop all of the supplies for these below. Super affordable and easy to make. And if you opt to use only greenery, they will last a really long time. You can even dry the greenery, keeping them forever for home decor!
2) Greenery Garland Balloons (a HUGE thanks to Adine for finding the giant 36” balloons AND getting them filled!) All you need for these is cut up greenery (2-3 inches long) and green floral tape.
3) Carnation floral spheres. Again, super simple and affordable, since carnations are some of the least expensive floral options and last a very long time. You only need fresh blooms and oasis floral spheres.
I was worried that just these details may not be enough for our floral birthday party, but once everything was put together, what do ya know, it was exactly what I had envisioned! Our mini party was happening, and the Birthday Girl was ready, in all her blush & bloom glory! (I was so happy she let me put that little floral headband on her. With Charlie girl, you just never know.)
We let the girls run around and jump in the amazing ball pit, and other games at The Coop and then had our little blogger family photo time. Not gonna lie, I’m pretty sure I was sweating at the end, but seeing the photos later, especially the ones of our girls together blowing out the pink candles made it totally worth it! Even Eric agreed it was worth bribing Charlie with a cookie to get her to stay still for 30 seconds, not an easy job!

A HUGE thanks to Adine and The Coop San Francisco for all the work to make this blogger mama’s party dreams come true, down to talking Charlie into letting me put her hair into pony tails when she was in no mood to stop playing.
I’ve added a ‘Highlight’ to my IG stories titled “Charlie’s DIY party” where you can watch some of the BTS videos and time lapses of putting the party together.
Happy 4thto our sweet sweet angel!! You are truly one of a kind Charlie!
