THE CONVERSATION PIECE

Ladies, let’s talk conversation pieces! The thrill I am feeling daily as more and more fall collections drop—and I scroll through my favorite brands’ new-arrivals pages to see a plethora of embellishments, tassels, feathers (oh my!) and all-out “more is more” vibes—well, just color me the happiest maximalist.

This edit was a tough one to pare down because, naturally, I have been saving an ungodly number of conversation pieces to share. But even a maximalist gal must know her limits.

If you are a fellow statement-accessory lover, well, just scroll on down and dive right in. But if you are a quiet-luxury gal who happened to stumble onto this post and is currently feeling a little dizzy, let me make my case.

Here’s the thing about a great conversation piece: it does the heavy lifting for you. You don’t need an entire maximalist wardrobe or a head-to-toe look to make getting dressed feel interesting. Take the simplest outfit you already own and add one fabulous shoe, an embellished bag, an intricate brooch, or a necklace that feels more like a work of art, and suddenly the whole thing has a point of view.

And maybe that’s what I love most about these kinds of pieces. They don’t just finish an outfit; they give it personality. They’re the things someone stops you to ask about. The things you remember wearing years later. The things that make even an ordinary Tuesday feel worthy of getting dressed for.

So no, I’m not suggesting you abandon your cashmere sweater and go-to denim. I’m simply suggesting they might enjoy the company of a fabulous feathered shoe.

The funny thing is, the pieces in my closet that have stayed with me the longest are rarely the sensible ones. They are the pieces I bought because they made me feel something. The pieces that still give me the same giddy feeling I had as a little girl, who dug up a sparkly treasure at the thrift store and just had to give it a good home.

Now, shall we shop?
