Scrolling through the STAGE website on the hunt for a Mother’s Day gift and drifting off into a daydream, thinking about my own babies. Sometimes when it is 3am and I am woken up by their little flailing arms, after they have both crawled into our bed in the dark of the night, I stay awake for a bit just thinking about how I used to dream of having girls. I would fantasize about what craft projects we would do together, how they will tell me all their hopes and dreams one day. How I would try hard to build them up every day to be strong and know their worth. It was just a dream then, and sometimes it still feels unreal.
Then there are days that are tough and oh so long, and ones that make you use up all that strength and patience that you want to instill in them. The days where your head just can’t wait to meet the pillow. I think the sweet spot is somewhere in between. Messy and unexpected. Sweet and full of kisses. With their funny comments and silly dance parties and driving me absolutely crazy.
I haven’t always been a huge holiday girl, but Mother’s Day always tugs at my heart so deeply. After all, it takes on a whole new meaning when you have your own children. I always equate a beautiful scent with this day. Growing up, my mom had a little area in her bedroom where she displayed her favorite perfumes. I would marvel at their fancy packaging and sneak in to arrange and smell them when she was busy cooking. She was always so glamorous as she headed out to work and I remember thinking “When I grow up, I want to have my own perfume area too”.
